Lawyers representing Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev rested their case Tuesday after calling only three witnesses.

The announcement stunned the packed courtroom.

Prosecutors had called more than 90 witnesses over 15 days of testimony, including wrenching accounts from victims and medical experts.

The defense, on the other hand, took less than a full day to present its case.

Tsarnaev’s lawyers do not deny the 21-year-old took part in the April 15, 2013 bombing that left three dead and more than 250 others wounded.

But they contend he was pressured into the acts of terror by his elder brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, who died in a gun battle with police.

The defense’s final witness was FBI fingerprint examiner Elan Graff.

Graff said she did not find Dzhokhar Tsarnaev’s fingerprints on any of the more than 500 items recovered from the blast site, including bomb components and tools used to assemble the two explosives.

But Graff did note that two of the younger Tsarnaev’s fingerprints were found on a Tupperware container filled with black powder, ball bearings and a fuse recovered from a Watertown, Mass., location where the brothers engaged in a shoot-out with police.

Graff said she found dozens of fingerprints from Tamerlan Tsarnaev on items that included a jar of nails, a remote control transmitter and a pressure cooker lid.

Earlier in the day, a computer expert testified about jihadist writings and audio speeches discovered on the brothers’ computers.

On Monday, a forensic computer examiner testified that, after inspecting the brothers’ cellphone records, he could not place Dzhokhar Tsarnaev at locations where some of the bomb components were purchased.

Closing arguments will be held April 6.
