Doug Ford to announce whether he’ll run for PC leadership

UPDATED: Doug Ford says he will not run for leadership of the Ontario PC party. 

TORONTO – Doug Ford is expected to finally say whether or not he’ll run for leadership of the PC party at a press conference Thursday morning.

The press conference will be held outside of Deco Labels in Etobicoke at 11 a.m.

Ford has not said whether he’ll run to replace Tim Hudak but would be up against a bevy of candidates, including Christine Elliott and Lisa MacLeod.  But a Forum Research poll released on Nov.3 suggested Ford ranked second with 24 per cent support among conservative voters. Elliott led in the poll with 34 per cent support among the same group of voters.

And an apparent “grassroots” campaign was launched on Nov. 5 which tried to bolster support for Ford to run. The group launched a website, Twitter account and Facebook page under the moniker “Draft Doug Ford.
