Starbucks has partnered with AT&T to bring wireless phone charging to select locations. The units will be installed in the surfaces and bars at the coffee chain so that customers can charge their devices without recourse to plugs or wires.

Beginning this week, 200 Starbucks locations throughout the U.S. will see the tech employed. More locations are planned for next year, but Starbucks is mum on where they'll be.

According to the New York Times, the charge is conducted via magnetic field that creates voltage to power a device. Customers simply place their phones on the Powermat and carry on with their business.

"The availability of Powermat Spots in Starbucks is transformative for San Francisco Bay residents who no longer have to worry about making it through their day with limited battery power," said Ran Poliakine, CEO of Powermat Technologies.

"They know that the nearest charge is only as far away as the nearest Starbucks."

A list of participating Starbucks is available now at Powermat.com.
