Police: 80-year-old driver's car hit by State Trooper

Alleghany Co., VA - State police are investigating a crash involving a state trooper.

According to State Police, on Sunday night, Trooper J.E. Philpott was headed north on Route 220 in Alleghany County when a car did not stop at a stop sign.

The trooper could not avoid hitting 80-year-old Matthew T. Barnette of Clifton Forge and the two hit at the intersection of Route 220 and 667 around 6.

Trooper Philpott and Barnette went to the hospital for non life threatening injuries.

No charges have been filed yet.
