Not that we haven’t seen so many signs over the years, have we? While Nokia is one of the most iconic mobile phone brands in the world – who does not have fond memories of clunky old Nokia handsets? – its time may really be over. According to a leaked document that Nokia Power User has released to the public, Microsoft is slowly but surely removing traces of Nokia with its acquisition.

The deal is not totally closed, but it’s going in that direction, and looking at this snippet from the leaked Microsoft document, it seems Nokia Oyj will now (and maybe forever?) be called Microsoft Mobile Oy. What’s in a name, you might ask? Well, it certainly doesn’t include Nokia anymore!

Under the terms of the sale, Microsoft will assume all rights, benefits and obligations of the Nokia Devices and Services business, including Nokia’s agreements with suppliers, customers and partners which pertain to the Devices and Services business. Therefore, the purpose of this letter is to update you that the current terms and conditions that you have with the Devices and Services business will not change.

Please note that upon the close of the transaction between Microsoft and Nokia, the name of Nokia Corporation/Nokia Oyj will change to Microsoft Mobile Oy. Microsoft Mobile Oy is the legal entity name that should be used for VAT IDs and for the issuance of invoices. (Source)

One piece of good news is for suppliers – they still continue with existing deals. As for loyal Nokia consumers, maybe it’s time you brace yourself. The next time you go on a mobile phone purchasing venture, you may not have the option of looking at Nokia units – unless, of course, you look at old stock or secondhand units.

Are you a Nokia user? What do you think of the changes Microsoft is looking at implementing?
