David Folkenflik: News Corp Tried To 'Prevent Cooperation' For Murdoch Book

Author Of Explosive Murdoch Book Speaks Out

David Folkenflik, author of the new book "Murdoch's World," appeared on HuffPost Live Tuesday and openly discussed the difficulties and "discouragement" he faced trying to probe investigate one of the most powerful media figures in the world, Rupert Murdoch.

The NPR media correspondent told host Alyona Minkovski that there was "an effort to prevent cooperation and collaboration with the book," on the part of Murdoch's company, News Corp.

"There was very little patience or encouragement coming from News Corp," Folkenflik said.

He also discussed the strong sense of loyalty that exists within the company, which created obstacles for him along the way.

"There is a sense of tribalism at News Corp... The idea is not to get at the truth, but to defend your pals," he said.

Indeed, Folkenflik recounted one instance where a top executive actually backed out of an interview for the book after one of Murdoch's "top aides" told him not to proceed with it.

Nevertheless, he said he was still able to talk with more than a hundred insiders and sources close to the Murdochs to give him a closer look into "how things went down."
