CRANSTON, R.I. — Rhode Islanders have a new option for energy.
North American Power is a new company, and has been offering Rhode Island residents a new supply of energy since July.
The company promises low rates on some plans and clean energy on others.
Flyers have been mailed to thousands of homes.
"You have to do your math and take a look at the terms. Is it a variable rate? Fixed? Fixed for a period of time? Penalties? And how the standard rate compares," said Tom Kogut of the Public Utilities Commission.
A National Grid representative said their company's advice is to "study the offer carefully and make an informed decision."
