Outlook less than sparkling for Keurig's cola machine

Keurig Green Mountain sparked analyst concern Thursday with the announcement of a retail price range for their DIY carbonated beverage venture, Kold.

Investors think the machine – expected to go for between $299 and $369 – is due for a frosty reception. It’s more expensive than chief market competitor SodaStream’s most affordable option at $79.

Keurig’s stock fell 8 percent Friday to a 52-week low of $94.87 a share, an almost 30 percent drop for the year and well below the company’s high point of nearly $160 a share in November.

But interest from Big Soda hasn’t fallen flat. Despite a cost-per-pod of between 99 cents and $1.29, Dr Pepper Snapple and Coca-Cola have both partnered with Keurig on providing products for Kold.
