FAIRFIELD TWP. – Fairfield Township will get its first McDonald's restaurant next year.

Both the McDonald's and a self-storage facility are expected to open next year in the Menards Crossings of Fairfield Township shopping complex at the southwest corner of Princeton and Gilmore roads.

Township trustee John McGinnis said he is pleased to see development moving forward in the township.

"I'm excited for the township," McGinnis said. "Anything that stirs economic growth and moves us in a positive direction – I'm all for it."

Earlier this month the township's zoning commission gave its final approval to the submitted plans for both projects.

McDonalds will construct a single-story, 4,456-square-foot McDonald's restaurant that will sit on a two-acre site on Princeton Road, said Robert McIntyre, the township's zoning inspector. It will have side-by-side drive-thrus.

A company spokesman said tentative plans call for construction to start next spring with a summer 2015 opening.

McDonald's will use its new design with a low arch and mostly brick exterior, similar to ones in front of the Northgate and Tri-County malls and the Erie Boulevard McDonald's in Hamilton.

The second project includes 11 self-storage buildings, totaling 123,490 square feet of space, which will sit on a seven-acre parcel, McIntyre said. Two of those are two-story buildings; the other nine, single-story.

The prefabricated metal buildings will be located south of Menards in the shopping complex.
