Cutchogue Fire Department Elects New Members

The members were sworn in during the last meeting.

The Cutchogue Fire Department welcomed in its two newest members, Michael Keil and T.J. Behr during its regular monthly meeting last week.

Both men were officially sworn into the department as a probationary members and represent the 566th and 567th members to ever serve the Cutchogue Community.

Behr is a second generation firefighter and longtime CFD Junior that will now follow the in the footsteps of his father 2nd Assistant Chief Lawrence Behr.

Under the direction of Chief Antone Berkoski, Assistant Chief Behr was given the unique honor of swearing in his son T.J. and Keil as CFD newest members.

“The Officers and members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to welcome them both to the CFD family and wish them well as they begin their firefighting careers and in T.J.’s case, carry on a family tradition,” the department wrote on their website.

At this meeting the members of the United Fire Company No.1 also held the Annual Elections for Company Officers.

For 87 years since the formation of the United Fire Company No.1 on February 15, 1928, the membership gathers on the first Thursday in February to elect the company officers for the coming year.

Officers are elected by the membership for 1 year terms and after approval by the Board of Fire Commissioners, the Officers are sworn into office at the March meeting.

The elections of Chiefs for the Department are held annually in a separate meeting in April.
