Hyundai Motor Group chairman Chung Mong-goo declared full-fledged efforts to expand exports with the aim of achieving global sales exceeding eight million units.

Chairman Chung held the meeting for export expansion on Monday and was briefed on the goal for global sales in 2014. ¡°We are sure to deliver over eight millions global sales, up 440,000 from 7.56 million last year,¡± Mr Chung noted. ¡°The road ahead is bumpy. I urge you to center on export expansion to fulfil over eight millions global sales.¡±

The meeting, attended by presidents of major affiliates, examined the domestic and global sales to forecast this year¡¯s sales. The automaker forecast its global sales to reach eight million units, over 140,000 units higher than its goal of 78.6 million units set out early this year.

The auto industry both at home and abroad applauds performances of Hyundai Motor and Kia Motors this year. An official at Korea Automobile Manufacturers Association explained, ¡°if the automaker delivers over eight million vehicles across all markets even under the worsening market condition including anemic recovery of the global industry demand, volatile foreign exchange rate such as the yen¡¯s slide and lackluster domestic consumption, this means another leap forward for the Korean auto industry.¡±
