More Major Retailers Commit to Guilford Commons

Three more nationally known retailers have been announced for the site.

Guilford officials announced that Bed Bath & Beyond, Michaels, and DSW have all agreed to sign leases for between 15,000 and 20,000-square-feet spaces as part of the new Guilford Commons, which is scheduled to open this fall.

Those businesses will join Fresh Market, which had already been announced as the anchor store.

“We are pleases to announce the addition of these best-in-class merchants that will provide enhanced retail options for Guilford area-shoppers,” said Jim Grafmeyer, vice president of DDR Corp. “We are in negotiations with additional retailers and restaurants to occupy space at Guilford Commons....”

Construction began in the summer of 2014 and it includes the widening of Route 1 with a dedicated turn lane, the addition of a traffic signal, bus stop and widening of Interstate 95 north off-ramp.

“We are happy with the progress that is being made at Guilford Commons and look forward to the economic development opportunities the shopping center will provide,” said First Selectman Joe Mazza.

Economic Development Director Brian McGlone said the project is on schedule and exterior walls are going up now.
