Report: Syracuse and PSU no longer planning 2020-2021 games

Plenty of games are scheduled well in advance, and sometimes those plans change. This seems to be the case with Syracuse and Penn State.

The two schools were thought to be working on scheduling games to play in 2020 and 2021, but those plans are no longer in the fold according to a report from Troy Nunes Is An Absolute Magician Thursday afternoon. After contacting Penn State about the status of the future games, following Penn State’s move to add Virginia Tech to the future schedule in 2020 and 2025, the Syracuse-based website says it was told the talks are no longer happening.

The thought of playing in 2020 and 2021 stemmed from the original release regarding a recent meeting between the schools in 2013. When a game on a neutral field in MetLife Stadium was announced for the 2013 season opener, a reference to a potential agreement to play a home-and-home in 2020 and 2021 was included. The games were never made final, and apparently we know why. Those talks never grew.

For now, Syracuse will continue to search for a power conference opponent for those 2020 and 2021 schedules in order to meet the ACC’s power conference opponent requirement, but the Orange have some time to figure out which school or schools will fill the vacancy.
