Wednesday Sector Laggards: Utilities, Services

The worst performing sector as of midday Wednesday is the Utilities sector, showing a 0.9% loss. Within that group, AES Corp. (NYSE: AES) and DTE Energy Co. (NYSE: DTE) are two large stocks that are lagging, showing a loss of 2.7% and 1.5%, respectively. Among utilities ETFs, one ETF following the sector is the Utilities Select Sector SPDR ETF (AMEX: XLU), which is down 1.0% on the day, and down 7.64% year-to-date. AES Corp., meanwhile, is down 1.71% year-to-date, and DTE Energy Co., is down 9.92% year-to-date. Combined, AES and DTE make up approximately 4.1% of the underlying holdings of XLU.

The next worst performing sector is the Services sector, showing a 0.4% loss. Among large Services stocks, Discovery Communications, Inc. (NASD: DISCA) and Macy's, Inc. (NYSE: M) are the most notable, showing a loss of 2.4% and 2.4%, respectively. One ETF closely tracking Services stocks is the iShares U.S. Consumer Services ETF (IYC), which is down 0.4% in midday trading, and up 4.38% on a year-to-date basis. Discovery Communications, Inc., meanwhile, is down 9.32% year-to-date, and Macy's, Inc., is down 2.52% year-to-date. Combined, DISCA and M make up approximately 0.9% of the underlying holdings of IYC.
