Price cuts, a loyalty card and home deliveries from Wm Morrison appear to be winning approval among shoppers as the supermarket chain celebrates its first monthly increase in till receipts since the end of 2013.

Morrisons was the only one of the “Big Four” supermarket operators to increase its sales for the three months to May in comparison with last year, with revenue up by 0.1 per cent to £2.78 billion, according to figures compiled by Kantar WorldPanel. Its rivals — Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda — all suffered a decline in takings.
