Hello
I am looking to buy a new gaming laptop. And I have no idea what I should get.
I'm normally buy gaming desktop, however I just got a new job that requires me to travel a lot.

My current pc specs are
cpu: i7 4770k 3.5 ghz
gpu: r9 290x (OC to 1040 MHZ)
ram: 16 gb ddr3 1600 MHZ

Is it possible to get something with the same performance?
Money is not an issue, but I would rather not spend 3000 if I don't have to. ( Look at some website for top 10 gaming laptop and #1 was 3000) As this is my main hobby i am willing to spend quite a few dollars.

Check out Canada Computers. The MSI is hands down a better machine, but the asus is a lot cheaper for what you get.

Just type "980M" in the search. ANy of those laptops will do it, and do it good, however the price point vs all the other features is what you're looking to hit.

Mobile GPU that is around the 290x would be a GTX 980m. Asus makes the cheapest laptop that I know of that has that card in it, and I'm currently typing my reply on it.

Where are you located? $2600 out the door for 24gb ram, 980m, 256gbSSD, 750gb HD etc.

What's the size also? Is size and weight important? Because I can recommend you a TITAN GT80 which is big and bulky but still a laptop.

The best for both traveling and power would be the MSI Dominator GT72 Pro with an i7 4720HQ (or the 4980HQ if you want) and the GTX 980M.

Usually desktop will always outperform a desktop because of the limitations that arise with a laptop. Still there are some powerhouse available out there. You should look on these sites:
http://rjtech.com
http://xoticpc.com

A laptop with a i7/GTX 970m would have comparable (slightly less) performance compared with your current setup, which would be available at a strting price of around $1500 i guess, depending on what you would want.

If money is not an issue and I could choose a laptop, this is what I would go with. It's thin, so convenient to travel (not too heavy) but has a good size 15.6 screen, it also has a dvd drive (most laptops this thin do not) and it sports a GTX 980m which is more closely comparable to yoru R9 290X.

You can get a cheaper version of this w/128gb SSD that's not in a RAID array but $200 cheaper.

The keyboard in the MSI is better. (feel, color backlit, etc) however... the SSD in the asus, the ram, etc. You can always spend 200 bucks on a great SSD for the MSI however - bu requires a reformat to do it. WHatever floats your boat!
