ONTARIO >> Sales have begun for Park Place, the first post-recession housing development for the city’s New Model Colony master planned community on former agricultural land in the southern part of town.

The Upland-based Lewis Group of Cos. has partnered with Irvine-based Stratham Communities to develop Park Place, a 1,500-home neighborhood on 382 acres on the east side of Archibald Avenue, just south of Edison Avenue.

“It’s absolutely a stunning development,” said Mayor Paul Leon. “It is 100 percent, over-the-top beautiful, and it serves as testimony that the economy has turned around and things are looking up.”

Four home-construction companies, KB Homes, Woodside, Tri Pointe and Ryland, are building the homes at Park Place. People are expected to start moving in by early spring, Lewis said.

“Park Place has met with an enthusiastic response from home shoppers who realize it’s a perfect opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a major development,” Lewis said.

“I think this is a great location,” said Craig Lemessurier, spokesman for KB Homes. “It’s close to jobs, the freeways, and it’s minutes from the Ontario airport. It’s a great master plan with a ton of amenities.”

When ultimately built out in the coming decades, the 13-square-mile New Model Colony, named in recognition of Ontario’s past as a “model colony,” will have about 30,000 new homes, about 120,000 new residents and nearly a dozen schools.
