Time Warner Cable‘s VOD and Internet services experienced outages across the U.S. Tuesday morning, with the cable giant restoring them by mid-morning.
“We’re working to restore services to all areas as quickly as possible,” said the TWC Help Twitter account, managed by TWC’s online customer care team, a little after 7 a.m. ET. “No ETR. Tweets will be delayed while this is addressed.”
Just before 8 a.m. ET, the company said in a statement obtained by The Hollywood Reporter: “At 4:30 a.m. ET this morning during our routine network maintenance, an issue with our Internet backbone created disruption with our Internet and On Demand services. As of 6 a.m. ET, services were largely restored as updates continue to bring all customers back online.”
Around 10:30 a.m. ET, the customer service team’s Twitter feed said the issues had been resolved. “Services should be restored for all customers,” it said.
New York Fox affiliate Fox 5 had tweeted earlier amid the disruptions: “Breaking: Time Warner Cable reporting nationwide outage.”
NBC’s San Diego affiliate tweeted: “#BREAKING: Time Warner Cable is reporting outages nationwide. We’re tracking any local impact from the #LiveDesk. Watch #NBC7.”
Some Twitter reports spoke of nationwide effects. One source said the company had in the early morning focused on determining the scope of the outages and addressing them.
TWC subscribers complained about service problems on social media, making Time Warner (Cable) a trending topic on Twitter early in the morning.
Tweeted Anne Marie Petersen, who identifies herself as a Daybreak producer at ABC affiliate WFAA-TV Dallas/Fort Worth: “#BREAKING TWC working to restore outage widespread from LA to NY. If you can’t see us, that’s why!”
The cable firm, which is a separate company from entertainment giant Time Warner, has more than 11 million subscribers, including in New York and L.A. Comcast is planning to acquire most of it.
