Heavy rain continued to lash most parts of Puducherry on Thursday inundating low-lying areas and paralysing normal life. The rain worsened the condition of many roads and localities in Puducherry that had been battered over the last few days.

Arterial roads such as Gingee Salai and Subbiah Salai now resemble a carpet-bombed airstrip as potholes have erupted on the entire stretch and eroded a major portion of the surface giving anxious moments to road users.

The delay in completing underground drainage works has made roads unmotorable.

Official sources said Puducherry received a maximum of 26.3 cm rainfall from 8.30 a.m. to 5.30 p.m. on Thursday.

All the major waterbodies are brimming with storage.
