Woman, 42, found murdered in Gateshead

Police have named a man they want to speak to in connection with the murder of a woman in Gateshead.

The body of the 42-year-old was found by officers at an address in Hillfield Street, Bensham at 20:30 GMT on Friday.

That evening, Carl Anderson, 41, from Gateshead, was reported missing.

Officers from Northumbria Police have appealed for help in tracing Mr Anderson, who has links to Great Lumley, County Durham.

He is described as 5ft 10in tall, of medium build with short, brown hair.

He was last seen wearing a dark zip-up waterproof jacket, blue jeans, a white jumper with horizontal blue stripe across the front and a black wool hat with the letters NYC in white.

A spokesman for the force said it was believed the woman had been murdered and inquiries were ongoing.

The spokesman added that the force did not believe Mr Anderson posed a risk to the public but urged anyone who sees him to contact them.
