    Nissan Motor India records over three-fold increase in March sales

    Nissan Motor India has reported over 3-fold increase in its sales in March at 7,019 units, on the back of its newly launched small car Datsun Go.

    NEW DELHI: Nissan Motor India today reported over three-fold increase in its sales in March at 7,019 units, riding on the back of its newly launched entry-level small car Datsun Go.

    The company had sold 2,125 units in March last year. The Datsun GO contributed 2,072 units in the March sales within just 10 days of its national launch, Nissan Motor India said in a statement.

    Commenting on the sales performance, Nissan Motor India Vice-President Business Management Ajay Raghuvanshi said: "After the excise duty cut was announced in the Budget, we immediately passed on the benefit to customers and dealers were also compensated. We started on the right note although nothing much was happening in the market in terms of consumer sentiments."

    The Datsun Go has also received good response from the market and there have been over 50,000 inquiries already across India, he added.In the fiscal ended March 31, 2014, the company's sales stood at 38,217 as against 36,975 units in the previous year, up 3.4 per cent.

    Nissan Terrano was the biggest contributor to sales, achieving 14,998 units since its launch in October 2013, while the Micra range comprising of Micra Active and Micra hatchbacks sold 12,595 units during the fiscal, the company said.
