Vespa Scooters To Launch LX 125 In India

Vespa LX 125
The Vespa scooter brand has had a huge impact on how Indians viewed two-wheelers. This light, inexpensive and easy to use scooter was a regular feature on Indian roads until the late 90s. Vespa's parent company Piaggio had a joint venture with Indian scooter maker LML Scooters. LML Scooters stopped building the Vespa after 1999. In a new development, Piaggio has decided to relaunch the Vespa brand independently in India and its first model will be the Vespa LX 125.

Piaggio has published a newspaper advertisement seeking enthusiastic dealers to sell its Vespa scooters. The Italian scooter brand has decided to invest 30 million Euros to build a manufacturing plant in India with a production capacity of 1.5 lakh units per year. In its statement on its plans for India, Piaggio said: “A meeting chaired by Roberto Colaninno (chairman), the board of directors of Piaggio & C. SpA approved the strategic guidelines and industrial plan of a new Piaggio Group initiative in India for the production and sale of two-wheel vehicles, beginning with a Vespa LX 125 model."

The Vespa LX 125 will carry the traditional Vespa design that has long been appreciated. Instead of a two stroke engine that used to power old Vespas, The new LX 125 will be powered by a four stroke engine. The engine can generate 10bhp and the Vespa LX 125 can accelerate top top speed of 91km/h.
