Connellsville man sentenced to prison for role in armed robbery of pizza deliverer
A Connellsville 20-year-old was sentenced Wednesday to spend up to five years under court supervision in connection with the armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver in January 2014.
Cody Darrell declined to address Judge Joseph George before being sentenced to 30 to 60 months in a state prison, but his attorney diminished Darrell's involvement in the incident.
“The defendant's actions in the case … were limited to planning and use of a cellphone,” attorney Michael Gallo said. “He wasn't present for the robbery.”
Darrell entered a general plea in January to the four charges against him — robbery, conspiracy, theft and receiving stolen property.
George gave Darrell credit for time served of about eight months.
Darrell was one of five people arrested in the robbery of a Domino's Pizza delivery driver at gunpoint.
According to court documents, the men called Domino's Pizza in Connellsville on Jan. 15, 2014, using Darrell's cellphone and ordered a pizza, wings and three 2-liter bottles of soft drink.
They instructed the driver to deliver the food at a Perry Street residence, police said.
One of Darrell's alleged accomplices pointed a gun at the male driver and demanded money in addition to the pizza order, police said The driver was not injured.
