H Is for Helicopter, G Is For Guilt — What’s Your Modern Parent Letter?

Here at Motherlode, we’ve fallen — hard — for “Q is for Quinoa, A Modern Parent’s ABC.” From “A App” to “Z Zumba” it’s an alphabet that encapsulates a certain 21st-century parent experience, and the illustrations perfectly capture every age from “B Babiators” to “U Unreasonable” to “D Drama.”

It’s hard to pick a favorite. As much as I loved “P Projectile,” I had to go with “E Equipped (for Everything).” The author Joel Rickett chose “I is for iPaddy” — with the painfully accurate picture of the girl holding on to her tablet for dear life. She is about to have an “(M is for…) Meltdown.”

One key question: What did they leave out? Spencer Wilson, who illustrated the book, is joining Motherlode as our second artist-in-residence. He will be illustrating posts and essays through January 2015 — and he will be illustrating an additional entry into the Modern Parent’s ABC nominated by the Motherlode community.

So what letter is your nominee for the modern parent’s alphabet? I’d go with M Minecraft, or maybe C Creeper, but Spencer has the final say. Be the first to nominate the letter and vocabulary word he chooses to illustrate, here in the comments or on Twitter (#modernparentABC) before midnight E.S.T. Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, and he will mail you the original of the illustration while we glorify your name on the blog. His decision may be capricious, and is of course final. There will be no appeals and please, no meltdowns.

Name your letter below, and come back Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, to view the winner.
