Sometimes Hip Hop can move at a pace too frantic for even the most devoted fan to keep up with. Albums and mixtapes are released at breakneck speed, careers are made and broken with the swipe of a pen, and somewhere in between all the madness actual music (the quality of which vacillates between excellent and god awful) is being made. Twitter provides a nice summary of everything 140 characters at a time. And if you’re the type that would rather not be bothered with stepping into the Twitterverse to catch up on the latest in Hip Hop, we’ve filtered through the top rapper’s tweets and consolidated all the week’s events into one convenient feed.
This week, actress Taraji P. Henson disses 50 Cent after his attack on Empire, Nicki Minaj announces her second documentary on MTV, and YG fans take it upon themselves to protest his Grammy snub.

— Lupe Fiasco (@LupeFiasco) January 10, 2015
Lupe´Fiasco and Kid Cudi sparred over Twitter regarding (perhaps) Kendrick Lamar’s statement in his interview with Billboard Magazine that has recently been released. In the interview, Kendrick makes a claim to others backing off Iggy Azalea because, “She’s doing her thing,” Lamar said of Iggy Azalea. “Let her. People have to go through trials and tribulations to get where they at. Do your thing, continue to rock it, because obviously God wants you here.” In the interview, he also made this statement regarding the recent shootings of black men by police officers around the country, “What happened to [Michael Brown] should’ve never happened. Never. But when we don’t have respect for ourselves, how do we expect them to respect us? It starts from within. Don’t start with just a rally, don’t start from looting — it starts from within.” These comments started a firestorm between Lupe´, Kid Cudi, Azealia Banks and Iggy Azalea, who have very differing opinions on the matter.

A layman of Azealia’s Twitter may think that she’s spent the entirety of 2014 airing out her opinions on Iggy Azalea and other folks in Hip Hop. They’d only be half wrong. She also finally put out her great debut Broke With Expensive Taste. What’s been keeping her on the minds of most, though, has been her outspokenness regarding what she perceives as the white cultural misappropriation of Hip Hop. It also speaks to a larger conversation regarding police brutality and the valuing of African American lives. Never one to be shy, she made these comments in regards to Kendrick Lamar’s interview in Billboard. To say it set off a series of events would be an understatment.

They protested the fact that his debut album My Krazy Life did not make it to the Best Rap Album category at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards. The best part was that YG had no idea this was happening.

Metro Boomin Claims He Is Not “Trap”
Don't you ever call me a "trap producer" or my beats "trap beats". That's worse than calling me a nigger.
— Metro Boomin (@MetroBoomin) January 8, 2015
Talk about defensive. Metro Boomin is a producer who has worked with well known artists including Wiz Khalifa, Future, Migos, and Young Thug. Apparently, “trap” is not a genre he is too fond of. With the progression of new music these days, it’s easy to mesh the different genres.
