A feral cat broke into the home of an elderly couple, attacked them and damaged their belongings but the RSPCA has been accused of failing to help.

Bruce and Eileen Gough were watching television at their home in Canterbury, Kent, last Thursday when the cat suddenly appeared in their doorway before running into the spare bedroom and hiding under the bed.

Mr Gough, 74, a retired aerospace engineer, first tried to coax it out, then got a broom to ease it out after it refused to move. It bit him, leaving him requiring injections at hospital, urinated on their carpet, smashed a family heirloom and refused to move from the windowsill.
