The Indiana Pacers have been going through an up-and-down offseason so far, but they have some money to make other moves before the 2015-16 season begins. One of their biggest needs is at the power forward position, and they need to begin looking at potential acquisitions. David West and Roy Hibbert are both on their way out of town which leaves the Pacers with just Lavoy Allen, Myles Turner, Shayne Whittington and Ian Mahinmi at the frontcourt positions.

According to a report from Jordan Schultz, the Phoenix Suns are interested in trading Markieff Morris this offseason. Indiana has to do whatever they can to snag the talented power forward in a trade with the Suns.

During the 2014-15 season with the Suns, Morris ended up averaging 15.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. He shot 46.5 percent from the field overall and knocked down 31.8 percent of his three-point attempts. Morris isn’t known for his three-point shooting, but he’s very capable in the post and can knock down the mid-range jumper as well.

Those are exactly the skills that the Pacers need at the power forward position. West was always the heart and soul of the Pacers while also being an enforcer on both ends of the floor. Morris isn’t quite as vocal or as much of a leader, but he is capable of being an enforcer and growing in the other two areas.

At 25 years old, Morris has plenty of room to grow over the next few years. He is currently under contract through the 2018-19 season, and those years will be the best of his career. Morris is due to be paid around $8 million each season, with his last year being $8.6 million.

Needless to say, that contract is going to be an absolute bargain when the salary cap rises. Indiana currently has the money to bring Morris on board without having to ship anything out, although Phoenix won’t be trading him just to get rid of him.

Whether or not the Pacers have the assets to get a trade done with the Suns is another question. They would probably want a first-round pick back from Indiana, and that is something Larry Bird may not be willing to do. That being said, the Pacers cannot afford to enter the 2015-16 season with their current frontcourt rotation.

Adding a talent like Morris would take them to a whole new level and would also fit in with their new vision on the offensive end of the court. Morris can move down the court quickly and would fill exactly the void that the Pacers are looking for at their starting power forward position. Indiana is not done this offseason, and it wouldn’t be surprising to hear that they have interest in acquiring Morris over the next few days.
