Ubiquiti(R) airFiber(R) 5X Sets a New World Distance Record for Wireless Broadband

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 10, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. (Nasdaq:UBNT) ("Ubiquiti"), today announced what is believed to be a new world distance record for wireless broadband. The 140 mile / 225 km link was established from Los Angeles to Las Vegas and achieved a data rate of 155 Mbps through a 50 MHz Channel with two airFiber® 5X radios paired with 31dBi antennas. This feat more than doubled Ubiquiti's previous best of 64 miles / 103 km.

"We believe this single airFiber 5X link, spanning between two states, represents the longest reliable link ever deployed using UNII certified unlicensed backhaul equipment," said Gary Schulz, V.P. Engineering of Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. "These distances are even challenging for high-powered licensed links costing orders of magnitude more money–making this feat even more remarkable. The performance obtained at this extreme range shows the high level of development and technical sophistication that is available to every customer who deploys airFiber products."

Purpose-built from the ground up, airFiber 5X is a ruggedized outdoor Point-to-Point radio designed for the global unlicensed frequency bands. Powered by Ubiquiti's Invictus™2 proprietary ASIC, airFiber 5X is capable of virtually unlimited packet processing, hybrid division duplexing (HDD) for ultra-low-latency, split variable channel width operation for noise immunity, and GPS synchronization for densely co-location deployments. With demonstrated range far exceeding 200km+, throughput of 500Mbps+, and a $399 MSRP, we believe airFiber 5X effectively democratizes true long-range, carrier-class, backhaul technology for the world.

"This level of performance is due to the unique combination of the highly optimized airFiber proprietary over-the-air protocol and painstaking attention to cost effective radio frequency (RF)/product design," said Robert J. Pera, CEO of Ubiquiti Networks, Inc. "airFiber is one of the few broadband solutions that is not restricted by the significant limitations of competitive products using off the shelf Wi-Fi chips that were originally designed for limited, short-range LAN applications. We see this custom solution as Ubiquiti's first step into a multigenerational product platform that will span numerous markets and applications."

airFiber 5X, the first airFiber X radio with full 5GHz global 5GHz band operation, is now shipping worldwide.
