Douglas County Sheriff’s detectives said Robert Jacobs’ motorcycle was found Tuesday in the South Platte River near where his body was discovered earlier in June.

Searchers have been looking for Jacobs’ Harley Davidson motorcycle since his disappearance and indicate that they do not believe foul play was involved, according to a Douglas County Sheriff’s Office news release.

“For unknown reasons, Jacobs ran off the road into the river,” the release said.

The sheriff’s office and the South Metro Fire Rescue’s Swift Water Team used straps and a crane to pull the motorcycle out of the river around noon on Wednesday, about two miles north of Sugar Creek Road on South Platte River Road.

The county sheriff’s office said J acobs was riding from Castle Rock to Breckenridge but never arrived. Jacobs was traveling on his Harley Davidson Road King with Colorado license plate 445-UVU.

On the day Jacobs’ went missing, the release said, the road near the accident site was gravel. It has since been paved.
