The annual free fireworks display at the site of the original Famous Dave’s barbecue restaurant is set for Friday.

The event was in doubt after a fire destroyed the Hayward, Wis., landmark on Round Lake in November 2014, but local business leaders and Famous Dave’s of America Inc. pitched in to continue the 20-year tradition.

Debris from the fire has been cleared, and the event will be held under tents. Beer and barbecue will be sold from 6 to 11 p.m., and the Lamont Cranston Brand will perform at 8:30 p.m. The fireworks are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m.

Dave Anderson, founder and namesake of Famous Dave’s, will be at the event even though he is no longer affiliated with the company. He opened Jimmie’s Old Southern BBQ Smokehouse in Hayward earlier this year.

Minnetonka-based Famous Dave’s of America operates 49 corporate restaurants and 134 franchise restaurants in the United States.
