(WTNH) – Every week News8 and Frontier Communications spotlight kids in the community who make the world a better place. This week, Finn O’Shaughnessy and his neighborhood library are taking the community by a reading storm. He is only 9 years old from North Haven.

Finn started reading at a very young age. Reading is by far his greatest passion. He was inspired to start a book lending library in the first grade. He did a little research on other lending libraries, then designed and built his own for his neighborhood.  He went to the local North Haven fire station who lent him some scrap wood to build the project.  He used a drill gun and did most of the building on his own. With a little help from neighbors, Finn was able to get the box mounted onto his favorite tree and painted.

Once the library was built, Finn stocked the shelf with books and watched as neighborhood kids lined up to “Take a book, Leave a book.”

This summer Finn will be expanding his library by building a lower shelf for smaller children.

If you know an MVP kid like Finn, nominate them today!
