THE Free National Movement Women’s Association honoured several women on Bimini on Sunday at the launch of their programme recognising the women for their commitment to the party and their community.

Cleola Hanna, Renae Robins, Coral Rolle, and Anastasia Ritchie were recognised by the association during a luncheon titled “Honouring Queen Makers” at the Bimini Big Game Resort.

This is the first of more honours that the association expects to carry out in the various Family Islands.

At the luncheon, party Leader Dr Hubert Minnis commended the four women for the outstanding work they have done over the years, not only to the FNM, but also for their service to the community.

“I thank each of you for your unwavering service, and I know that I can count on you for your continued support as we work together towards victory in 2017, and collectively, we move this country forward to a new and better Bahamas,” he said.

The FNM, Dr Minnis said, continues to be a party that embraces and fights for women’s rights. He pointed to the FNM’s track record of having the first woman parliamentarian, Speaker of the House of Assembly and governor-general.

“Bahamian women represent positive agents of change, who historically have been the backbone of our families, and who have made major contributions to the development of our beautiful Bahamaland,” he said.

Dr Minnis also commended the association for spearheading such a programme.

“The FNM recognises the significant role the FNM Women’s Associations in Nassau and in Grand Bahama have played in the party over the years, and the significant contributions these women continue to make to the party. I am hopeful that as a result of this visit to Bimini by the FNM National Women’s Association, a seed would have been planted and soon an FNM Bimini Women’s Association will begin to sprout,” he said.

President of the Women’s Association Monique Gomez said there are many women who continue to give of their time and talent to the party and their country, and who deserve recognition.

Ms Gomez said the Women’s Association was pleased to launch its honours programme in Bimini, and noted that further honours of the party’s Queen Makers will be held within the next few months as the association travels throughout the length and breadth of the Bahamas.
