Diebold aims for greater security, customer convenience with new 5500 ATM series

Diebold Inc. has announced its new 5500 series of ATMS. The new line is designed to deliver around-the-clock availability, low total cost of ownership, best-in-class security features and advanced technologies, the company said today in a press release.

According to the release, the 5500 series can help financial institutions address several business objectives:

• Manage security risks. The patent-pending Diebold ActivEdge card reader, which prevents all known forms of skimming, comes standard on the series. Additional available features include biometric finger-vein readers, security camera provisioning, encryption technology, monitoring services and more.
• Drive efficiencies and lower cost of ownership. Newly developed ActivDispense technology improves the ATM's uptime while optimizing its dispensing performance. ActivPower intelligent power management controls power to individual modules during servicing — eliminating the need to shut down the entire unit. The technology also reduces energy consumption by as much as 60 percent, lowering the total cost of ownership.
• Please customers. Advanced security features, modern design, a 15-inch high-definition touchscreen display, vibrant color collections, mobile-ready functionality, and optional two-way concierge video service capabilities support consumers with anytime banking access.

Diebold is unveiling the 5500 series this week at the ATM Industry Association Security Conference in London.
