Gold wage talks to resume on July 6
JOHANNESBURG (miningweekly.com) – The second three-day session of wage negotiations between gold companies AngloGold Ashanti, Evander Gold Mines, Harmony Gold, Sibanye Gold and Village Main Reef and unions, the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), the National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), Solidarity and UASA has been concluded.
Parties agreed to reconvene on July 6 for a further three-day session.
On Monday, the producers tabled a wage offer to employees that they said was based on the economic and social sustainability of the industry. The parties held discussions on the two subsequent days on details of the offer, as well as the companies’ models for economic and social sustainability.
Speaking on behalf of the gold companies, Chamber of Mines chief negotiator Dr Elize Strydom said: “The discussions have been constructive, with a genuine interest displayed by the unions in understanding the basis of the offer.
“We understand that the unions will communicate with their members in the next few days and will formally table their responses to the offers when the parties reconvene,” she added.
