Grayslake Man Wins Gold at National Parachuting Championships

Congrats to Brian Martin who won the top prize in the two-way canopy formation at the national parachuting championships in North Carolina.

A Grayslake residents won a gold medal last weekend at the U.S. Parachute Association National Parachuting Championships in North Carolina.

Brian Martin walked away with the top prize in the two-way canopy formation.

In canopy formation skydiving, teams of two skydivers deploy their parachutes immediately after jumping from the plane and build formations as quickly as possible while holding onto each other’s canopies. A videographer flies alongside to capture the action.

Martin, 32, is a software engineer for Discover Financial Services and has completed 4,000 skydives. He and his team, Slotswitch, train at Skydive Milwaukee in East Troy.

The parachuting championships wrapped up Sunday at Skydive Paraclete XP in Raeford, North Carolina.
