Permits down for construction

Fewer new construction permits for well and septic systems have been issued so far this year by the Lenawee County Health Department.

There have been 19 new construction permits issued from Oct. 1 through May 31, compared to 26 issued in the same period of the previous fiscal year, it was reported last week at the Lenawee County health board meeting.

Site evaluations for replacement of existing homes using existing well and septic systems are up, reported environmental health director Martha Hall. There were 15 site evaluations so far this fiscal year compared to 11 through May of last year. Applications for well and septic permits are also up, she said. New well applications total 117 through May, compared to 86 at the same point last fiscal year. And there were 44 septic permits compared to 39 through May in the previous year.
