Halliburton closing Homer City plant; 430 workers affected
Halliburton will shut down its facility in Homer City, Indiana County, and move operations to its hub in Zanesville, Ohio, a company spokeswoman said Tuesday.About 430 employees will be affected by the closure, which Halliburton said was expected to happen by the end of the year.Halliburton said most of those workers -- more than 80 percent -- will be given offers to transfer to Zanesville or other facilities in Pennsylvania."Ninety positions will be reduced as a result of the Homer City closure, but some of those employees will receive offers for different roles within Halliburton," spokeswoman Susie McMichael said in an email.The company said the Homer City closure is necessary because much of its work for customers has moved to southwestern Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio.The Homer City facility opened in 1970. Halliburton also has a presence in Canonsburg, Washington County, where it maintains its northeast headquarters.
