Transavia Chooses Apigee to Help it Become a More Digital Airline

Apigee's API Management Software Helps Transavia Securely Deliver Real-Time Data as the Airline Extends Its Digital Ecosystem to Partners and Developers

SAN JOSE, Calif., June 30, 2015 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Apigee® (Nasdaq:APIC), developer of an intelligent API platform for digital business, today announced that Transavia, the Dutch low-cost carrier airline and a division of the Air France KLM Group, has selected Apigee's API management software to help fulfill its vision of becoming the best digital airline in Europe. This vision includes a complete rebrand of Transavia's offline and online presence to embrace the customer journey, from booking a ticket to arriving at one's destination.

Transavia is leveraging APIs (application programming interfaces) and the Apigee Edge API management software to extend the airline's digital ecosystem. Being a key delivery partner for implementing Transavia's digital vision, Accenture helped Transavia to define its API strategy and to implement the Apigee API management software. Initially, the airline's new API-based digital infrastructure will open up its backend information technology (IT) system as modern, RESTful APIs so it can securely share Transavia data with business partners. This will give its partners the opportunity to build a variety of mobile apps that incorporate real-time information about seat availability and pricing on Transavia flights. In the future, Transavia is planning to develop an internal API infrastructure to streamline data sharing and create new efficiencies between its enterprise IT divisions. It's also encouraging the independent developer community to embrace its APIs to build more Transavia-powered apps.

"To help realize our vision of becoming Europe's best digital airline, we need a new, modern technology foundation built on APIs. We are leveraging Apigee's advanced API management to securely share our backend data, not only to partners, but also to employees and third-party developers," said Roy Scheerder, chief commercial officer, Transavia. "Apigee delivers advanced, proven API management software, and we are confident that it can scale with us as our digital ecosystem expands."

Apigee's intelligent API platform enables companies to provide connected digital experiences. Apigee helps businesses accelerate the pace at which they innovate, share their data and services, and adapt to rapidly changing customer and market needs. Apigee's platform today includes Apigee Edge, its flagship API management product; Apigee Insights, an advanced predictive analytics product; and Apigee Link, an API-first product for the Internet of Thing (IoT).

Accenture, an Apigee alliance partner and one of the world's leading organizations providing management consulting, technology and outsourcing services, is helping Transavia become a digital business using APIs. Accenture is working with Transavia to design, build, test and run elements of its digital ecosystem, using best-of-breed technology such as Apigee Edge. Leveraging the capabilities of Apigee enables Accenture to deliver innovative solutions for clients looking to seize opportunities as they develop into digital businesses. Accenture and Apigee formed a global alliance in 2013 to deliver solutions that help joint customers more easily build mobile applications and connect enterprise systems.

Geert Batterink, managing director, Accenture Digital, said: "Transavia has the ambition to become the best digital airline in Europe. Accenture helped Transavia to define its API strategy and to implement the Apigee API management software. Apigee provides fundamental capabilities to build a digital platform for Transavia that will help it drive business growth, enhance the customer experience, and streamline operational processes. As a result, passengers, airline staff and business partners will all benefit from the platform and ecosystem that Transavia is realizing in its digital transformation."

Ed Anuff, vice president of product strategy at Apigee said: "The airline industry is well aware of the need to quickly incorporate digital services to keep up with customer expectations and accelerate innovation. Transavia has a big vision and exciting opportunity to help define what it means to be a digital airline, and we are looking forward to supporting them on this important initiative."
