The stock market indices had a very nasty day today. Even though they opened lower, they did manage a rally, taking the Nasdaq 100 to new rally highs to 4560.00, but the S&P 500 did not confirm, and they started a track downward in a 5-wave decline that lasted all session, with the S&P 500 closing near the lows going away.

Net on the day, the Dow was down 178.00 at 17,966.07. The S&P 500 was down 15.62 at 2108.58. The Nasdaq 100 was down 24.14 at 4524.60.

Basically, they all closed at the lows for the day.

Advance-declines were almost 3 to 1 negative on New York Stock Exchange and 2 1/2 to 1 negative on Nasdaq. Up/down volume was 4 to 1 negative on New York, with total volume of 3 billion shares. Nasdaq traded over 1 billion shares, and had nearly a 3 to 1 negative volume ratio.

Stepping back and reviewing the hourly chart patterns, after coming down at the opening, the indices bounced and made new highs on the NDX, but when the S&P 500 didn't confirm, they made their way lower for the rest of the day, closing at the lows for the day going away.

Let's see how it goes tomorrow.
