NFL rumors roundup

Matthew Emmons/USA TODAY Sports

Here is a look at some of the top NFL rumors for Monday, July 6:

  • Following his breakout 2014 campaign with the Detroit Lions, wide receiver Golden Tate has spent his offseason working on his conditioning in an attempt to avoid a 2015 letdown. "I've been doing some yoga, trying to work on my flexibility," he said last week, per the Detroit Free Press. "Eating healthier than I ever have and just really trying to build my endurance up, trying to build my body as much as I can because, as you know, the season will break it down."

  • As much as fantasy owners expected Christine Michael to be a high-end handcuff to Marshawn Lynch, he has barely set foot on the field in two seasons as a pro. Furthermore, Robert Turbin has sat ahead of Michael on the depth chart, and now unrestricted free agent Thomas Rawls may be threatening his roster spot. ESPN Seahawks reporter Terry Blount thinks Michael is on the roster bubble. "It’s 'step up or step out' time for Michael, now beginning his third season," he wrote. "The Seattle coaches are high on Rawls, a free agent rookie from Central Michigan who started his college career at the University of Michigan. Pete Carroll loves Rawls’ toughness, seeing him as a bruising runner similar to Lynch. That’s not good news for Michael. He needs to do everything right in camp or he might find his days in Seattle have ended."

  • Another player who may be on a roster bubble is Miami Dolphins cornerback Zack Bowman. "A starting cornerback spot opposite Pro Bowler Brent Grimes is open, but there is plenty of competition. The leader in the clubhouse is Jamar Taylor, who started three games at the end of last season and knows the defense well," wrote ESPN Dolphins reporter James Walker. "Bowman, Brice McCain, Will Davis and rookie Bobby McCain are all in a crowded mix. Bowman didn’t stand out in offseason practices open to the media. He must make more of an impact in training camp. It most likely will come down to a numbers game for Bowman with how many cornerbacks the Dolphins decide to keep."
