FALMOUTH BULLETIN

News of the week

Michael Lucey

The month of June is halfway done and the stupendous spring sports programs and events offered at the Gus Canty Community Center have sadly come to an end. The summer camp schedules are finally shaping up and lately, the weather is following suit. Falmouth residents are truly appreciating this time of year, especially after enduring such an overwhelming winter. Every day, more people are walking, running, and riding their bicycles and the beach parking lots are starting to fill up with eager summertime enthusiasts. With the imminent conclusion of the school year becoming a reality once again, the children will be out and about, embracing their wonderful beach town. Let’s remember that our population nearly triples every summer, so please drive carefully. “Slow is pro” is my motto. Stop and smell the roses because it won’t be here forever. Remember, we live in New England, so this serene weather is unfortunately, transient. Without further ado, don’t forget your sunscreen and enjoy reading about the following summer programs offered through the Falmouth Recreation Department.

If you’re interested in learning more about the various programs and events offered throughout Falmouth this summer, please submit your email address to us and we’ll add you to our monthly newsletter. It’s easy, just stop by our front desk at the Gus Canty Community Center and we’ll be sure to update you to our email list. Some examples of what’s available are the youth Clipper Sports Camps, the Just for Kicks soccer clinics with Coach Greg Gilbert, Summer Hoops programs at Falmouth High School, Junior Golf lessons at the Falmouth Country Club, and many more. In addition to these youth programs, the town has many family and adult summer events as well. The following activities are offered: the 15th annual SBLI Family Fun Run, the George Keegan Fishing Derby, Thursday Night Summer Concerts at the Band Shell, the Kevin Pease School of Tennis, Youth Karate, Tae Kwon Do and many others.

If you’re still looking to keep your children busy this summer by having lots of fun with other kids, it’s not too late to register for the Teen “Xtreme” Summer Camp. Both the Adventure Summer Camp for grades 1-6 and the Summer Sailing program for ages 8-14 are already full. You must register online for our summer camps, so be sure to visit our website for all pertinent information: www.falmouthmass.us/rec. If you have any questions, please call our front desk at 508-457-2567.

The Falmouth Recreation Department “Person of the Week” is recognizing the coaching staff of the 2015 Spring Softball program. Thanks to Falcons coaches Rebecca Landers-Cauley and Isabel Green, as well as Eagles coaches John Fernandes and Amy Lowell. Without your leadership and positive reinforcement, we couldn’t reach the goals we set out to accomplish. Thanks.
