Police caught a serial burglar after his Crocs shoes left tread marks near the buildings he raided.

Roland Huntington Grace, 22, stole cash from a crêpe restaurant and a church in Fairbanks, Alaska. He also stole $1,000 worth of jewellery from one of the town's art galleries.

He was tracked down after a CCTV picture of him was posted on the Facebook page for the Fairbanks Police department.

When detectives eventually arrested him on suspicion of burglary, they found the tread marks near the buildings he targeted were consistent with the Crocs he was wearing in custody.

He was subsequently charged with stealing $400 from The Crepery restaurant on April 1 and $30 from the Church of Christ on April 2, as well as the art gallery theft.

He has since admitted charges of burglary, theft and criminal mischief in connection with the burglaries, according to reports.
