Mumbai: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Sunday said his next target will be Uttar Pradesh, and also declared to contest the Mumbai Municipal Corporation (MMC) elections.
Addressing a press conference at party headquarter Darussalam in Hyderabad after winning two seats in the 2014 Maharashtra assembly elections, Owaisi asked people not to see the numbers and said the party has won hearts in Maharashtra.
Asaduddin Owaisi also patted his younger brother Akbaruddin Owaisi for the efforts he put in for the victory in Maharashtra.
The AIMIM had fielded 23 candidates in the Maharashtra state election and won two seats. On at least 06 other seats the party candidate were second, and lost by a slender margin.
Most of the seats the AIMIM had fielded its candidates have a good number of Muslim population.
While Uttar Pradesh has many assembly constituencies where Muslim vote are deciding factors, Mumbai corporation is regarded as one of the richest civic body in Mharashtra, and has many wards where Muslims are in majority. The civic polls in Mumbai are slated to be held in 2017.
The AIMIM, besides winning two seats in the state elections, have 13 corporators in Nanded civic body.
