As many of you may have noticed, Milwaukee Avenue is booming with construction of new businesses.

That's where the new Dunkin' Donuts is being built, Albarran's Bar and Grill just had a groundbreaking ceremony and Chop Chop recently opened in the Hub (shopping center), along with several other businesses I've mentioned in the past in this column.

There are a couple more projects set for Milwaukee Avenue, including a shopping center and a trampoline park.

The Lubbock Entertainment and Performing Arts Association also unveiled the final design for the new performing arts center downtown.

Buddy Holly Hall

On Wednesday, LEPAA unveiled the final designs of the Buddy Holly Hall of Performing Arts and Sciences that is to be built at the property vacated by the Department of Public Safety branch at Mac Davis Lane and Avenue L.

Representatives from Plains Capital Bank and Atmos Energy presented LEPAA with donations in the amount of $500,000 and $50,000.

The new center will include a main theater that can seat more than 2,200, a studio theater with space for about 425, and a 6,000-square-foot multipurpose room.

The design also includes the repurposing of the DPS tower, which uses lighting to make it look like a tornado. Tim Collins, LEPAA chairman, said in a Facebook post, "The lighting became a way to honor the rebuild from the 1970 tornado."

The Esplanade

shopping center

The new shopping center's site was recently inspected by the city of Lubbock office of building inspection. According to the inspection, the Esplanade's north building will be located at 4525 Milwaukee Ave. and its south building at 4535 Milwaukee Ave.

Driving past the property you can see there is a sign on the lot, but construction has not started.

Trampoline park

One of the new tenants of Esplanade at City View Shopping Center will be Altitude Trampoline Park.

Zach Barton, Altitude general manager, said the new trampoline center should open in the fall.

"It's going to be an awesome park out there," Barton said. "We've been trying to get out in Lubbock for a little over a year now. We're about fitness and fun. We want to provide a place where kids can come in and have a good time, work out and stay healthy. Parents can come in and jump with their kids, and we provide a friendly, family atmosphere."

Altitude Trampoline Park will be have about 20,000 square feet dedicated to trampolines.
