DISH Hopper Allows You to Watch Super Bowl Commercials Without All That Pesky Football

By Rachel Cericola

Back in 2012, DISH Network created something super-special when they debuted the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR -- and more specifically, the AutoHop feature. Now, they're going to reverse it. No, they aren't planning to take away your precious commercial-skipping options anytime soon. Instead, they are enabling "Reverse AutoHop," specifically for the Super Bowl.

As many of us know, Super Bowl commercials are almost as big as the game itself. The newly announced Reverse AutoHop feature will allow Super Bowl fans -- well actually non-fans -- to skip over the actual game and get right to the commercials. That way, you can enjoy company, chips and dips and catch the commercials later, without having to rewind, fast-forward or scour the web.

DISH Network subscribers will need the Hopper Whole-Home HD DVR, with both the PrimeTime Anytime feature and the AutoHop feature enabled. The Reverse AutoHop feature can be enjoyed the day after the game, so you can watch the commercials back-to-back, without having to worry about watching the game a second time. Of course, if you missed a great play, the entire game or just want to relive a few moments, you have the option to watch the game as well.

"This day is about two things: football and commercials, and for good reason -- both are entertaining and our customers love them," said Vivek Khemka, DISH's senior vice president of product management. "We've decided to flip our user-enabled ad-skipping feature on its head so customers can watch the ads uninterrupted the next day when everyone is talking about them."

DISH Network's Hopper HD DVR can connect up to six HDTVs using one DVR box and four smaller Joey clients. The Hopper can record up to eight live HD channels during primetime hours, has a 2TB hard drive, WiFi, Bluetooth, and most recently added the option to stream Netflix. That PrimeTime Anytime feature can automatically record everything on the four major networks during primetime hours, with AutoHop allowing users to skip over commercials.
