Simon Sherwood from Ramsgate was one of five contestants battling it to win a the Mediterranean cruise at Maidstone's branch of Thomas Cook in Fremlin Walk yesterday.

All that was left was for one of the contestants to choose the correct key with which to unlock the treasure chest and win the prize.

The order was determined by who was closest in guessing the weight of the 225,000 tonne liner.

Simon, who was third to choose a key, successfully opened the chest live on air yesterday morning.

The 27-year-old taxi driver told the Kent Messenger he had only heard about the competition because he had just been booked to do a new school run at work.

He said: "Normally I am on nights so it was lucky I was in the cab with the radio on.

"I don't really enter competitions but I can't wait for the holiday.

"It was a great feeling to win but I don't think it will really sink in until I'm actually there."

Simon, a dad-of-two, will be taking partner Lauren Ramos with him.

The week-long holiday includes board for two people on Royal Caribbean Cruises’ Allure of the Seas, stopping at Barcelona, Mallorca, Provence, Florence, Pisa, Rome and Naples.
