Autopsy finds baby born at firm died of asphyxiation

Redford Township – — A newborn whose body was hidden in a bag under a desk by his mother moments after his birth died of asphyxiation, the Wayne County medical examiner said.

Ryan Bridges, spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner’s Office, said the boy’s death is ruled a homicide.

Police said the baby died shortly after being born in the bathroom of a Redford Township business.

The child’s mother, a 25-year-old Wyandotte resident, was a temporary employee of Level Professional Services who was placed at CEVA Logistics in October 2014, said Marty Barton, spokesman for the temp agency.

Police and rescue units were called around 11:20 a.m. March 31 to CEVA Logistics in the 24400 block of Glendale, according to police.

“Upon conducting a preliminary investigation, it was discovered that the child had been delivered in a restroom at the business,” police said in a statement at the time. “The mother and newborn child were transported to a local hospital, where the child was pronounced deceased.”
