A couple of days ago, Nokia did something nobody would expect, the company has launched an Android-powered tablet. This is not one of those Nokia X or XL phones which run a forked version of Android, no, Nokia N1 is a beastly Android-based tablet which runs Nokia’s very own Z Launcher on top of Android 5.0 Lollipop, which is yet another surprise here. You can try out Nokia’s Z Launcher on your device if you want, it is available on Google Play Store in Beta form. Nokia N1 features a 7.9-inch 2048 x 1536 IPS LCD display along with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of non-expandable internal storage. This tablet is powered by Intel Atom Z3580 quad-core processor clocked at 2.3GHz which comes along with a PowerVR G6430 GPU for graphics processing. On the back of this device, you’ll find an 8-megapixel camera while there’s a 5-megapixel snapper on the front of the device for your selfies and what not. Nokia N1 measures 200.7 x 138.6 x 6.9mm while it weighs 318 grams. This is a Wi-Fi only device, no 3G or 4G mobile connectivity available and the device ships with a non-removable 5300mAh battery on the inside (18.5Wh).
That being said, many people have compared this tablet to Apple’s iPad, it resembles the iPad and it also sports a 4:3 aspect ration, though many tablets do, so… as usual, these comparisons are a waste of breath. In an interview with PingWest, Nokia’s product manager, Sebastian Nystr¶m, decided to comment on these accusations none the less. He said that the design factor of Nokia N1 was determined based on user’s needs, they gathered data and made a tablet accordingly. He said that users require light, thin products and the appearance like the one of Nokia’s N1 tablet. Mr. Nystr¶m also added that Foxconn, who actually made this product, had a say in this decision as well. Nokia N1 is a really nice Android tablet basically nobody expected. Who would have guessed that Nokia, now a Microsoft-owned company, would introduce such a nice Android tablet with so very little customization on it, well, I certainly wouldn’t.
