Ruslana Avdeyeva, 28, and her sons Ilya, 3, and Gordey, 5, were walking to the shops when an Audi driver ploughed into them.

Stunned motorists jumped out of their cars to help the young family and one picks up what looks like a children’s bobble-hat as they approach the bodies.

The family were rushed to hospital and taken to intensive care where they remain in a serious condition following the crash in Sarov, Russia.

Borislav Yevseyev, who captured the video, added: "It was absolutely horrific and I’ve never seen anything like it before.

"The woman and the children were like rag dolls being thrown onto the ground.

"When I got to them one of the children and the woman were unconscious and I thought they were dead.

"But one of the boys had his eyes open and I could see he was breathing."

The police revealed that the driver Ismail Bezrukov, 23, only passed his test 6 months ago, is under investigation for the crash.

Police spokesman Edward Efremov added: "Another driver had stopped to let the family cross the designated crossing but the driver in the second lane appears to not have noticed the family or that the other car had stopped. He hit the mother and her two children as they emerged from his right hand side.

"He had not properly cleared the snow from the roof, and as a result did not have a clear view on the right of the windscreen."
