American Express joins forces with lifestyle app Foursquare to offer up to £70 of credit for spending in airports over Christmas
American Express cardholders jetting off over Christmas and New Year can earn up to £70 by downloading the popular lifestyle app Foursquare and shopping at participating airport shops.
Credit cardholders have until 31 January 2015 to make the most of spending at stores in Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester and Edinburgh airport terminals, including Caffé Nero, WHSmith, WorldDutyFree and Ted Baker.
They can earn between £5 and £10 of credit that is then reflected on their statement for each shop, but they are limited to only one transaction with each participating retailer and total rewards have been capped at £70.
Heathrow airport: Just one of five airports where Amex cardholders can clock up statement credit
Credit cardholders will have to shell out £340, spread across the participating retailers (see below) to earn back the maximum £70.
And the process for claiming the credit looks cumbersome. Card holders must connect their American Express Card with the Foursquare app, or online at americanexpress.co.uk/airsquare.
They then use Foursquare’s search function to find Amex special offers at nearby terminals.
They must then add the store to their card online by clicking on a box, before paying with their American Express Card at the participating merchant to redeem the offer.
The card must remain connected to the app until the transaction has be processed. If your phone drops signal and mistakenly signs out of Foursquare you will miss out on the credit.
All American Express consumer cards are eligible – including those issued via Lloyds or MBNA.
The credit on offer is as follows:
- Spend £10 and get £5 statement credit at Caffé Nero
- Spend £10 and get £5 statement credit at WHSmith
- Spend £30 and get £10 statement credit at Dixons Retail and Sunglass Hut
- Spend £65 and get £10 statement credit at Harrods and Fortnum & Mason
- Spend £65 and get £10 statement credit at WorldDutyFree
- Spend £65 and get £10 statement credit at Ted Baker.
Statement credits are usually issued within three to five business days, but may take up to eight weeks to be applied to the account.
If you cancel your card before the credit is applied to your account you will miss out on the pay-back.
Offers are not available on corporate cards or prepaid cards. Online transactions are not eligible.
Offers are open to UK residents. New cardholders will also be able to take advantage of the deal, but will have to wait until their Amex card is delivered before they can start making use of it.
Representative example: If you spend £200 at a purchase interest rate of 18.9% p.a. (variable) your representative rate will be 18.9% APR (variable). Credit limits and terms may vary based on your individual circumstances. Balance transfer offers and introductory fees limited to transfer made with 60/90 days of account opening. See product specific T&Cs. * must spend £1k within 3 months
